Have you ever wondered what happens after (spoiler alert!) everyone dies at the end of Shakespeare’s Hamlet?
In 1991, playwright Lee Blessing took this question seriously enough to pen Fortinbras, his self-described “metaphysical farce” that turns tragedy into laughs at just how ridiculous life, truth, authority and leadership can be.
SLO REP’s staged reading series Ubu’s Other Shoe, under the artistic direction of Michael Siebrass, gives director Jill Turnbow the opportunity to add her deft touch to the wry and witty play for three shows only September 26 and 27.
The show was originally scheduled as the kick-off of Ubu’s 20th anniversary season in fall of 2024, but was postponed at that time due to COVID.
The current production includes Ryan Austin, Jonathan Shadrach, Todd Long, Mike Mesker, Jeremy Helgeson, Abe Lincoln, Gregory Gorrindo, Lester Wilson, Phoebe Dubois, Katie Moersdorf, Amanda Thayer, Tom Ammon, Mary Ann Maloof, and Jude Walker.
Judy Hemenway & Jonathan Fellows are show sponsors, Pam & Mitch Nichter are Ubu’s artistic team sponsors, and Gina Kirk is Ubu’s season sponsor.
