Los Osos photojournalist Michael J Costa is headed to the Himalayas for the third time this coming September, just after launching a showcase of images from his two journeys in 2016 and 2017.

The Costa Gallery owner’s new photography exhibit, “Learning to Breathe, Trekking in Nepal,” is on view at the gallery in Los Osos through October 26. Original and print images are available for purchase.

The series includes images of Costa’s 2016 trek to Mt. Everest Base Camp and his 2017 climb to Annapurna.

His upcoming pilgrimage to Nepal and Bhutan near the Tibetan border begins on September 6.

“It takes a lot of endurance and mental focus to climb those incredible elevations,” Costa says. “At this point in my life, I’m eager to experience the people, culture and beautiful Himalayan vistas again. My camera will help me record new memories.”

In conjunction with his journey, Costa is sponsoring a “spare change” fundraiser, “Change 4 Change Nepal,” which has raised more than $1,000 to date for student programs at the Pinal Preschool in Kapan, Kathmandu. Donations are accepted at Costa Gallery through August 31.
