Michael Laboon, “Roots and Wings,” San Luis Obispo Art Around Town
For Ann Ream
This is where we enter the dark
This is where we must go it alone
Not really
Just without our beloved Ann
To be in this world under the blue sky
With the wind sometimes howling fierce
Without our core dancer’s
Improvisational liturgical moves
Interpreting the word love
Ann – you were always one step ahead of us
The poets – the painters – the sculptors
The musicians – the dancers – all the artists
You were always outstretched towards us
Our Queen leading the charge
Giving all you have in this
Our fight for freedom
This most precious prize
The public expression
Of an Art/Life
Always arabesque Ann
Always the core
This long drawn adagio
This dance of making Art public
Where would we be?
If not for your Allegro
Now your tempo is silent
Oh Ann – I thank you
We all thank and honor you
Art is life
Life should be an art
You were always the core
Here in SLO town – Ann
Always the heart
