NAACP San Luis Obispo County and R.A.C.E. Matters SLO are hosting a screening of a new, independent comedy-drama created, filmed and set in Northern California.
The Central Coast premiere of Disciples of a Craftsman is set for Sunday, September 13 from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Palm Theatre.
A Q&A with members of the filmmaking team is scheduled afterwards covering the story, the film’s Northern California roots, the community-powered process behind its creation, and a guided discussion on equity, opportunity, and organizing for justice.
The film explores craft, legacy, and the struggles for dignity in work and community—and how these stories connect to ongoing fights against race-based discrimination.
Bringing a distinctly Northern California voice to the screen, Disciples of a Craftsman is inspired by Latin America’s Third Cinema movement. It stars Sacramento native Timothy L. Brooks as Maurice, who returns home after his father’s funeral to face five long, unpredictable days where he confronts grief, relationships, and the difficult road ahead.
This event supports NAACP SLO County’s mission to secure political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights.
