Five familiar faces welcome audience members to SLO REP’s next production, the record-breaking musical comedy Nunsense.

Billy Breed, Katie Worley-Beck, Natalie Mara, Rachel Tietz, and Suzy Newman, all Central Coast actors recognizable for their work at SLO REP and The Great American Melodrama, play the five survivors of the Little Sisters of Hoboken nunnery—the rest of the sisterhood having succumbed to botulism after eating vichyssoise prepared by the convent cook. The sisters parade their talents at a variety show staged to raise funds so that the last four of the dearly departed can be buried.

Nunsense offers a cornucopia of songs and spontaneous comic interludes paced at break-neck speed, along with nun-liners, nun-puns and nun-sequiturs suitable for the whole family—proving conclusively that nun rhymes with fun! It has been making audiences laugh for more than 30 years, and remains one of the most performed musicals in regional theatres across the country.

The show is directed and choreographed by John Keating, artistic director of The Great American Melodrama, with musical direction by Marshall Keating. Set design is by Dave Linfield, costume design by Stephanie Joseph, and lighting and sound design by Kevin Harris. Props are by Suzy Newman and Lupita Rodriguez stage manages.

Nunsense is sponsored by Sharynn & Jerry Chirpich, Jeanne & Lawrence Lovelace, Karen S. Kolba MD, and Jerry Boots & Cricket Handler. Carol MacCurdy & Tom Nuckols are musical director sponsors, and Jayne & Steve Devencenzi are choreographer sponsors.

This wholesome, hilarious, crowd-pleasing musical revue runs September 15 to October 15 with performances Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday performances at 2 p.m.
