Jobyna Ralston and Harold Lloyd in “For Heaven’s Sake”
This Sunday, September 13, Orchestra Novo performs the American premiere of composer Robert Israel‘s orchestral score accompanying Harold Lloyd’s 1926 comedy classic For Heaven’s Sake.
Israel’s work shows an uncanny ability to create an atmosphere reminiscent of music from the Roaring ’20s. Period attire for the event is encouraged.
For Heaven’s Sake features Lloyd as an irresponsible young millionaire who changes his tune when he falls for the daughter of a downtown minister.
The movie screens alongside Big Business, a 1929 short starring Laurel and Hardy playing vendors going door-to-door selling Christmas trees in Los Angeles. Things get out of control as they find their task more challenging than expected.
Tickets for this “Orchestra Novo Goes Silent” double feature at the Harold J. Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cuesta College are available online at $45 general admission. Student rush tickets for $15 are available at the door with a student ID.
