A member of the Xolon Salinan Tribe born and raised in San Luis Obispo County is looking to learn more about people’s news habits and demands in SLO and Monterey counties.
Allison Herrera, an independent journalist, has spent years as an investigative reporter covering topics and issues like women in prison, missing and murdered Indigenous people, and how federal policies have affected Native people.
“I’ve always wanted to turn my attention and share my skill set in the place I grew up,” Herrera says. “I want to capture what it’s like to live in these areas right now, in 2026, and what people’s information needs look like.”
As a member of the Xolon Salinan Tribe, Herrera says she also is interested in understanding the realities and complexities of Indigenous life in California. “I’d love to hear from you about issues you care about, where you get your news and what’s some information or stories you’d like to hear more about.”
You can share your thoughts with Herrera by taking her survey online or by scanning the QR code provided.
