World renowned symphony and opera conductor Kent Nagano returns to the Central Coast to conduct a Benefit Concert on Labor Day weekend to help raise money for the purchase of the 90-year-old Morro Elementary School property.

Friends of Morro Elementary and the City of Morro Bay want to purchase the building and site to create a civic center. The current city hall and surrounding city-owned properties could then be used for housing.

A Grammy Award winner, Nagano attended Morro Elementary School under the musical tutelage of Botso Korisheli. He has conducted symphonies and operas throughout Europe and in Montreal, Canada. In 2026, he will join the Spanish National Orchestra in Madrid, Spain, as artistic director and chief conductor.

The concert is scheduled Sunday, August 31, at 3 p.m. in the Harold J. Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cuesta College. General Admission tickets are $85.

Sponsorship donations of $500 will be listed in the program (deadline for inclusion is Monday, August 25), with individual sponsors receiving VIP seating for an entire family and business sponsors receiving VIP seating as well as free General Admission for all employees.
