Cuesta College welcomed a new full-time drama instructor to campus for the fall semester.
Noah Lucé discussed his experience, goals, and fall show during a recent staff, student, and community meet-and-greet.
Lucé’s theatrical education started in California—first in Santa Rosa at a local junior college and later at the Pacific Conservatory Theatre (PCPA) in Santa Maria. He moved to Cornish College of the Arts at Seattle University, where he began a career as an actor and theatre professional.
“I was in a job where I realized I loved teaching,” Lucé said, “And so I was like, ‘I’m going to go back and get my master’s and start teaching.’” He went on to earn his degree from the University of California Santa Cruz.
During the 2020 pandemic, he decided to further his education again, earning a master’s degree in theater arts from the University of Idaho, along with a certification in culturally responsive pedagogy and universal design for learning.
Before his homecoming to California, Lucé spent time in Michigan as an assistant professor and director of art.
With his deep background in theater, Lucé is ready to bring his passion and energy to Cuesta, with a full fall production of Psycho Beach Party by Charles Busch in the works.
His goal for the program and its future is to create an open environment where anyone can come, regardless of skill or experience, and feel welcomed and encouraged. “The big thing is anybody who finds their way to feeling passionate about storytelling, I want to work with them,” Lucé said.
The excitement doesn’t stop with Lucé, however; Drama Department staff members are ready for Lucé’s vision.
“I’m looking forward to a fresh perspective, new ideas, and just the obvious energy that’s growing is exciting,” according to music and performing arts instructor Brian Williams. “He’s already interacting with the group of students that support the show, and that dynamic is really awesome so far. So there’s a big collaborative energy.”
