A free celebration of summer’s end filled with play and learning takes place Saturday, August 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Harold J. Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center on Cuesta College’s San Luis Obispo campus.
The SLO County Public Libraries Back-to-School Extravaganza, sponsored by the SLO County Library Foundation and Friends of the Library groups, features performances by musician Dino O’Dell and magician Shawn McMaster. Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion, a dragon from the storybook Dragons Love Tacos, and Library mascot Quincy the Quail will be available for photos as well.
All-day activities include a photo booth, carnival games, food trucks from Big Wave Sushi and Wandering Eats, and a treasure hunt. Several local family support agencies also will have booths with activities and information.
“Families are the heart of our libraries,” according to Library spokesperson Erica Thatcher. “The Extravaganza is a day of exciting learning opportunities for young children, but it’s also a chance for families and students to enjoy a beautiful college campus.”
Extravaganza admission and parking are free.
