Celebrated trail runner and environmental activist Peyton Thomas will attend a free, local screening of a short film that tells the story of a grassroots fight and a trail race that was about more than just miles.
SLO County Public Libraries presents Breath of Gloster on Saturday, May 9 at 1 p.m. A discussion with Thomas and educator-activist Dr. Krystal Martin, who are featured in the documentary, follows the eight-minute film.

Thomas speaks up for places and people who are often forgotten amidst the climate crisis. She blends her love for nature through environmental and climate activism and running.
Martin officially co-founded the Greater Greener Gloster Project, founded in response to the air pollution problem caused by the Drax Amite Biomass facility in Gloster, Mississippi. She is committed to advocating for the protection of the environment and the public health of the youth and the residents affected by the pollution.
Local experts will join Thomas and Martin for the follow-up discussion, including youth mental health clinician Jene Hinton-Railsback, environmental educator Celeste Royer, NAACP Tobin Johnson from NAACP, Eric Veium of the SLO Climate Coalition, and Cal Poly kinesiology lecturer Nicole Hagobian.
The event, part of the library’s film series “Outside Together,” is presented in partnership with NAACP SLO County and the SLO County Library Foundation. It will take place at the Harold J. Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center at Cuesta College. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Admission and parking are free, but RSVPs are welcome.
“Outside Together” is a film series that encourages inclusive discussions about the joy of outdoor recreation.
