One the world’s premier touring flamenco companies is making an appearance at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts in Arroyo Grande to share its latest creation on Friday, October 3.

The award-winning Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca present “Searching for Goya,” an evocative performance featuring live music and dance inspired by the powerful imagery of Spanish artist Francisco de Goya.

Goya, whose paintings, drawings and engravings reflected societal and political upheavals of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, is widely considered the most important Spanish artist of this period and is often referred to as the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns.

Noche Flamenca reimagines the artist’s work through riveting choreography, original music, and expressive storytelling. With vibrant costumes, lighting, and masks designed by Mary Frank, the production explores humanity’s beauty, darkness, and contradictions, with each scene delivering a visceral journey into Goya’s vision.

In its performances, all aspects of flamenco—dance, song, and music—are interrelated and given equal weight, creating a true communal spirit within the company: the very heart and soul of flamenco.

Noche Flamenca was formed in 1993 by Martin Santangelo and his award-winning wife and principal dancer, Soledad Barrio. The group has toured the globe, including regular seasons in New York City, and performances in North and South America, Europe, and Australia.

Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca’s “Searching for Goya” is part of the Clark Center for the Performing Arts 2025-26 Season, which features more than 100 shows.

The Center strives to inspire, entertain, and educate through the power of cultural and performing arts, bringing popular touring artists to the region and providing a high-quality venue for local artists and students to perform in.
