A new mobile app from KCBX Public Radio brings live radio, local news and other community-serving features to residents of the Central Coast.

The station’s first-ever smart device app is available for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Search “KCBX” to download the app to your phone, tablet, Apple CarPlay, and/or Android Auto.

“KCBX has always been about community, and this app is another way to be there for our listeners, wherever they are,” according to KCBX president and general manager Chris McBride. “One of the best features of the app is how easy it is to listen any time of day to ‘Morning Cup’ or any of our other 25 locally-hosted music shows.”

The app offers a dedicated news tab delivering local news stories and NPR headlines, allows you to livestream both KCBX and KCBX 2, and offers on-demand listening for local and national programs.

KCBX programming available on-demand includes locally produced shows such as “Central Coast Voices,” “Issues and Ideas,” “Morning Cup,” and “Broken Spoke Folk Show,” as well as national programs such as “Morning Edition,” “All Things Considered,” and “Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me!”

KCBX 2 features news and talk programming, including “BBC World Service,” “Here & Now,” and “On Point.” The app also has the capability to deliver push notifications for breaking news and station updates.

Additional features include access to the KCBX Community Calendar, the full broadcast schedule, on-air playlists for local shows, and the station’s newsletter signup and donation portal.

By utilizing the “Join the Conversation” feature, listeners can submit audio feedback directly to KCBX staff—whether to share a perspective on a local issue or tell the station why they listen.

Direct links are available on the KCBX website, along with a “frequently asked questions” webpage to guide listeners with any inquiries.

KCBX is a non-commercial public radio station that serves an average weekly audience of more than 35,000 listeners in Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and south Monterey counties. KCBX FM broadcasts on 90.1 in San Luis Obispo, 91.1 in Cayucos, 95.1 in Lompoc, 91.7 from Paso Robles to Salinas, and 90.9 in Santa Ynez, Goleta, Avila Beach and Cambria.
