Rebecca Gilman’s 1999 play Spinning Into Butter will be performed as a staged reading for one weekend only at By the Sea Productions in Morro Bay.

A thought-provoking play set on a small college campus, it involves an administrator who finds herself dealing with two incidents of racism, one overt and one unintended. The reactions of the administrators and students illustrate the challenges of recognizing and responding to bias, racism, and political correctness in America today.

Directed by Lisa Woske, the cast includes Nicolette Tempesta, Sean Shealy, Marilyn Blake, Russell Snow, Rhonda Crowfoot, Bryan Easton, and Aaron Jackson.

Spinning Into Butter plays April 21 and 22 at 7 p.m., and on April 23 at 3 p.m. at St Peter’s by the Sea Episcopal Church Hall, 545 Shasta Avenue in Morro Bay.
