SLO Rep’s staged reading series, Ubu’s Other Shoe, will mark the end of its 20th season with a celebration in the theatre’s lobby on Friday, May 23 at 6 p.m. Ticket holders for the closing show of the season, Ada and the Engine, can enjoy a reception followed by a brief presentation and the show’s opening night performance.
After the show, the audience is invited to join the cast in the lobby to toast Ubu’s Other Shoe Artistic Director Michael Siebrass, who, in 2004, directed a staged reading of Gore Vidal’s thought-provoking political satire The Best Man at SLO Little Theatre. That was the first of 119 staged readings so far produced under the Ubu’s Other Shoe banner.
The series is named after the infamous plays written by Alfred Jarry (Ubu Roi) that were banned from the stage after riots erupted on opening night.
The celebration is sponsored by Sharon & John Dobson and Ann Robinson.
