Award-winning local author Debbie Noble Black invites kids and parents to join her at Coalesce Bookstore in Morro Bay on Saturday, June 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. for a book signing. Her latest release, The Old Secret at Hotel Oregon, is book two in her historical fantasy series for kids ages 8-12 that features a 10-year-old girl named Sara.

Book one in the series, Deetjen’s Closet, recently won a first place in the 2024 Gertrude Warner Book Awards for Middle Grade Fiction.

In Sara’s latest adventure, she is faced with the impossible task of rescuing 12 ghost children from eternal oblivion before the end of a fast-approaching eclipse.

The Old Secret at Hotel Oregon is gathering accolades of its own. Kirkus Reviews calls it “a jaunty and enlightening supernatural tale

Published by Coalesce Press, both books will be available at the signing or can be purchased from local bookstores and online.

Black also will be presenting an introduction to writing books for children at the upcoming Central Coast Writers’ Conference September 26-27. “This is for all the folks who’ve always wanted to write a kid’s book but didn’t know where to start,” Black says. “It’ll be a blast of creative inertia to get those books started.”
