A compelling play based on the true story of a domestic abuse survivor will be performed March 21 and 22 at the Unitarian Universalist Church in San Luis Obispo to benefit Lumina Alliance.
My Name Is . . . was written by a former criminal investigator for the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office, David Norum, who spent 16 years in law enforcement and based his play on his final case involving a woman’s journey from abuse to freedom. The play offers a raw and unflinching look at the struggles survivors face and the extraordinary bravery required to rebuild their lives.
BHGRE Haven Properties sponsors the production for Lumina Alliance, a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals impacted by sexual and intimate partner violence. “Our partnership with Haven Properties and the performance of My Name Is… underscores Lumina Alliance’s mission to support survivors and raise awareness about intimate partner violence,” according to Lumina spokesperson April Cole.
Proceeds benefit the organization’s comprehensive services for survivors, including advocacy, therapy, and prevention programs.
Each performance concludes with a Q&A session featuring Norum and trauma experts, offering insights into the complexities of domestic abuse.
