A 2024 Sundance Film Festival award winner opens August 16 as one of the SLO Film Center offerings at the Palm Theatre this weekend.

Dìdi is an American coming-of-age comedy-drama (“for anyone who’s ever been a teenager”) written, directed, and produced by Sean Wang in his directorial debut. It premiered at Sundance in January, where it won the Audience Award: U.S. Dramatic and U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble.

The film stars Izaac Wang and Joan Chen. Set in 2008 in the Bay Area, Dìdi is a funny, irreverent, and affecting ode to first-generation teenagers navigating the joy and chaos of adolescence as seen through the lens of a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy.

The SLO Film Center continues to screen two other current films at the Palm this weekend: Kneecap and National Anthem.
