SLO REP’s staged reading series, Ubu’s Other Shoe, presents Escaped Alone by Caryl Churchill for three performances, one weekend only, January 27-28.

The convention-defying play juxtaposes backyard tea with environmental disaster, exploring themes of politics, crisis, communication, and female endurance. It “unleashes an intricate, elliptical, acutely female view of the apocalypse,” according to Susannah Clapp of The Guardian. “This is fantasy intricately wired into current politics. It is intimate and vast.”

Writing in The Atlantic, Sophie Gilbert says the play, first produced in 2016, is “funny, charming, and alarming, encapsulating an impossible amount into its brisk 55-minute running time.”

Performances are at 7 p.m. January 27, and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. January 28.
