Central Coast artist, illustrator and author Sommer Roman has a new children’s book coming out later this month.
Len & Lou Get Bored, now available for pre-order online in the U.K., is a 34-page paperback adventure following siblings Lou and Len who are really bored on the first day of summer. They discover a simple household item that, with the help of some animal friends, they use to invent things like the Fabric Forest Flyer, a Leap Over Lasso, and a Rescue Ladder.
According to Roman, the story’s whimsical world shows how “boredom is often the forgotten secret ingredient to creativity and imaginative play.”
Roman maintains a multi-disciplinary art practice spanning textile sculpture, mixed media drawings, and children’s illustration. She now teaches art at Cuesta College but has called many places home, including France and Washington D.C.
The author plans to hold local book signings in October or November once the book becomes available in the U.S.
