Two tween books by local award-winning author Debbie Noble Black have earned Chanticleer International Book Awards.
Deetjen’s Closet: A Quest for Magic (Coalesce Press, 2023) received first place in fiction for its cover design and The Old Secret at Hotel Oregon (Coalesce Press, 2025) was named first place honorable mention in the Gertrude Warner Middle Grade Fiction category.
Both books, set in San Luis Obispo County, are part of a series written for readers ages 9 to 12. They are available at local independent bookstores as well as Bookshop.org, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.
Black, a resident of Cayucos, is presenting two sessions at the Central Coast Writers Conference at Cuesta College September 25-26: Writing Books for Children and Teens, and Mastering Dialogue.
A columnist for Estero Bay News and author of the blog ”RV Camping in Your Own Backyard,” Black is an active member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, SLO NightWriters, and The BookShelf Writers.
