The 57th annual community BBQ fundraiser for SLO County student scholarships is scheduled on Super Bowl Sunday, February 8 from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the SLO Elks Lodge.

The annual Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. High School Memorial Scholarship Fund Chicken BBQ turns a shared meal into college opportunity. A local tradition rooted in education, justice, and equity, proceeds support college scholarships inspired by the legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dine in or take out a classic meal featuring chicken, potato salad, beans, and garlic bread for $15. Desserts are sold separately. Additional donations are welcomed.

The first scholarship was awarded in 1969. In the ensuing years, the fund has awarded more than 660 scholarships to deserving students with an average of 15 scholarships offered per year.
