San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre is bringing back its heartwarming production of A Christmas Story November 21 to December 21 at the downtown theatre.
The beloved holiday classic promises to enchant audiences of all ages with its nostalgic charm and festive spirit.
Based on the iconic 1983 film and Jean Shepherd’s semi-autobiographical stories, the play transports theatergoers to 1940s Indiana, where young Ralphie Parker (Leo Ventura) dreams of receiving a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas.
Narrated by the adult Ralphie (Ben Abbott), the play follows his hilarious and touching escapades as he navigates school bullies, a quirky family, and the overwhelming desire for the perfect Christmas gift.
Director Kevin Harris brings a wealth of experience and passion for storytelling to the production, ensuring a faithful adaptation that captures the essence of Shepherd’s original narrative.
From Dave Linfield’s whimsical set design, to nostalgic costumes coordinated by Barbara Harvey Abbott, to evocative lighting by Harris, every detail has been meticulously crafted to immerse audiences in the magic of a 1940s Christmas.
Together with a dedicated production team and the support of the San Luis Obispo community, the talented cast promises a theatrical experience that will leave audiences laughing, reminiscing, and celebrating the joy of the holiday season.
“We are thrilled to bring A Christmas Story to life on our stage each and every holiday season,” says Harris, who also acts as the managing artistic director of the company. “It’s a timeless story that resonates with audiences of all ages, reminding us of the magic and wonder of Christmas.
“We invite everyone to join us for this festive production and create lasting memories with family and friends.”
