The Cambria Film Festival, running February 5-9, has given SLO Review the opportunity to preview many of the more than 80 full-length and short films that make up its 2025 program schedule. All-access passes, live screening only passes, and passes to view films virtually after the festival are available now.

One Hectic Day

Everybody Wants To Be Loved, a German film with English subtitles, chronicles one day in the life of Ina (played by Anne Ratte-Polle), a psychotherapist with a defiant teenaged daughter, an irresponsible ex-husband, a controlling mother, and a self-centered fiancé.

It is her mother’s 70th birthday and her fiancé wants to accept a professorship in Finland, taking her with him. To complicate matters further, she discovers that she is pregnant.

However, Ina seems unable to take the good advice that she gives to her patients.

Matan Radin’ cinematography is beautiful. And while this is a German production, much of the soundtrack is in English.

Director Katharina Woll develops the protagonist and her conflicts slowly, and at its conclusion we are left wondering what Ina is going to do.

While the acting is very convincing, the lack of a clear resolution in this relatively short feature film—less than 90 minutes—may not be satisfying for many viewers.

Screenings of Everybody Wants To Be Loved (run time 84 minutes, in German with English subtitles), sponsored by Pinnacle Auto Brokers and Cavalier Oceanfront Resort, are at 4 p.m. Thursday, February 6 and at 10 a.m. Sunday, February 9.
