San Luis Obispo High School senior Mary Kate Fidopiastis has been named the winner of the SLO Youth Symphony’s 2025-26 concerto competition.
“Mary Kate performs with great poise and musical expression,” according to SLO Symphony music education manager Grace Seng. “She is a leader in the Youth Symphony and has a bright future in music.”
The daughter of Pat and Kelly Fidopiastis is the principal flute of the SLO Youth Symphony, and is also the drum major of SLO High School’s marching band.
Fidopiastis will perform the first movement of Mozart’s “Flute Concerto No. 1 in G Major” K. 313 during the Concert Orchestra’s spring concert on March 2 at SLO United Methodist Church.
