As a prelude to the Central Coast Writers’ Conference, keynote speaker Rob Edwards will attend an exclusive screening of Disney’s The Princess and the Frog at the Palm Theater in San Luis Obispo on Thursday, September 25 at 6 p.m.

Edwards, who co-wrote the screenplay for the film with John Musker and Ron Clements, is the closing keynoter for the conference taking place Friday and Saturday, September 26 and 27. During the conference he also is teaching two breakout sessions and a master class on screenwriting.

Nominated for three Academy Awards, the animated musical-romantic comedy film is, according to Edwards, “a princess movie for people who don’t like princess movies.”

Set in 1920s New Orleans, The Princess and the Frog tells the story of a hardworking waitress named Tiana who dreams of opening her own restaurant. After kissing a prince who has been turned into a frog by the evil voodoo witch doctor Facilier, Tiana becomes a frog as well and the two must find a way to turn human again before it’s too late.

Doors open at 5 p.m., the film begins at 6 p.m., and a Q&A with Edwards immediately follows the screening. General admission is $12, with seniors and children 12 and younger $10, and tickets are available online or at the door.
