The California Arts Council has awarded the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art two grants totaling more than $36,000.

The museum will use an unrestricted $18,000 general operating support grant to expand free, countywide community arts outreach, including bilingual family artmaking events, pop-up creative workshops, Downtown SLO Farmers Market activations, after-hours arts programming, and collaborative events with local partners.

These offsite programs will keep the arts accessible while the museum prepares to open its new downtown campus in summer 2027.

An $18,750 Arts and Youth grant will support a full year of Second Saturdays free monthly family artmaking days, along with a large-scale community art project early next year led by Shandon artist Kiel Johnson.
