February seems so far off and Cambria sometimes seems so distant, but it was good to drop by the Cambria Film Festival‘s 10th anniversary Mini-Fest in September and get a small dose of cinematic palliative on the eve of the autumn solstice.
The Cambria Center for the Arts was filled with film fans and tables of delicacies and wines.
Cinema-goers were treated to more than a dozen short films along with the Iranian feature film Whisper My Name, which I watched online to review for last year’s festival but had never seen in a theatre.
This unusual father-daughter tale took on a new meaning and depth seeing it on the big screen, and I noticed many new things about the film: for one, the main character, played by Amin Hayai, may be the most reckless hero-father an estranged daughter could hope for.
It was great seeing the red carpet photo booth and seeing Jeff Plummer and Lilliana Montero Plummer and their celluloid sons, Carlos and Kyle, keeping the cameras rolling and the projector flickering.
It’s a reminder that February 3-7, 2027—when a new mix of international films and emerging filmmakers will be brought to us by the eclectic Cambria Film Festival—is closer than ever.
