Two half-sisters and three men try to out-do each other to reap possible rewards from a stamp collection the women inherited in Mauritius, a play by Theresa Rebeck being presented as a staged reading by Ubu’s Other Shoe at SLO REP March 17 and 18.

The play, Rebeck’s first to appear on Broadway (in 2007), is directed by Gregory Gorrindo, and Pam Hester is stage manager. The cast includes Taylor Peters, Seth Blackburn, Tony Costa, Martin Hewitt, and Rebecca Johnson. Mauritius is sponsored by Daniel Freeman.

SLO REP’s staged reading series is named after the infamous trilogy of plays written by Alfred Jarry (Ubu Roi) that were banned from the stage after riots erupted on opening night. Ubu’s Other Shoe exists to offer actors, directors, and audience members an opportunity to experience memorable plays that do not necessarily fit into SLO REP’s regular season.

Gina Kirk is Ubu’s Other Shoe season sponsor, and Pam & Mitch Nichter sponsor the series’ artistic team, which includes Artistic Director Michael Siebrass.
