The collaboration between a pianist/composer and a dancer/choreographer creates Counterpoint, a Cal Poly Arts presentation April 8 in Harold Miossi Hall at the Performing Arts Center.

Conrad Tao is the musician, and Caleb Teicher is the dancer, and together they use harmonic, rhythmic, and theatrical counterpoint to explore the connections between their different perspectives and artistic practices.

The stylistically diverse music includes the aria from Bach’s Goldberg Variations, Art Tatum’s demented stride piano, Arnold Schoenberg’s ironic take on the Viennese waltz, and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

Tao and Teicher’s earlier work, More Forever, is a Bessie Award-winning, New York Times critic’s pick that was lauded for “constantly extending the sonic aspects of dance.”
