Valencia High School Choir at the 2024 Choral Festival

More than 1,000 students representing 52 middle school and high school choirs from around the state will perform in front of their peers at the San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble’s 30th annual Choral Festival. Six local schools are represented.

The event, held at the Performing Arts Center SLO on March 20 and 21, gives each choir the opportunity to sing two selections—often accompanied by choreographed movements—on a professional world-class stage in front of two professional local judges: Cuesta College Director of Choral Studies John Knutson and SLO Master Chorale Music Director Tom Davies.

The event is open to the public and no reservations are required; however, a Cal Poly parking fee of $8 per day is in effect for both days of the festival. Hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 20 and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. March 21.

Tracy Gillson and Susannah Fletcher, Vocal Arts Ensemble board members, organized the event this year.
