The heartwarming, humorous, and venerable musical about traveling con man Harold Hill is next up on the playbill for Coastal Performing Arts Foundation‘s Players West, opening August 7 at the Clark Center for the Performing Arts in Arroyo Grande.
Meredith Willson’s The Music Man features Gregory Gorrindo in the title role, aiming to con the fine folks of River City, Iowa, into purchasing band instruments and uniforms. But his plans go awry when he falls for Marian the librarian (Rebecca Johnson). Despite his intentions, Harold forms a bond with the town’s young people, particularly Marian’s younger brother Winthrop (Carson Seely), and of course a happy ending awaits (with 76 trombones leading the way).
Zach Johnson directs and choreographs the cast of more than three dozen singers and dancers, with Mark Robertshaw as music director.
The production runs just one weekend with five performances (including two afternoon shows) through August 10.
