On June 3, the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors approved two resolutions celebrating the concepts of equality and diversity. The votes to approve were not unanimous, but a majority of the supervisors carried the day.
The first proclaimed the second Saturday in June 2025 as “Juneteenth Day” in the County of San Luis Obispo. Among the reasons cited for recommending that all citizens of the county join in recognizing the importance of this special day are that it “embodies the indomitable human spirit of the past, in the present, and all time” and “to secure the Blessings of Freedom, Justice, and Equality for all in this great Country of ours.”
Supervisors also proclaimed the month of June 2025 as Pride Month in the county. The resolution stated that the county supports the rights of all citizens to experience equality and freedom from discrimination and that “every individual has equal dignity, worth, and status.” The resolution calls upon community members “to embrace this principle and work to eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists,” and declares that “recognition from one’s government is crucial for feeling safe and seen in one’s community, and the County of San Luis Obispo is intent on ensuring that everyone in the County feels welcome, safe, and a sense of belonging.”
