“Hollywood Whispers” (2023) by Marian Galczenski

Celebrating the diverse and dynamic talent of Central California’s creative community, the Monterey Museum of Art’s inaugural Monterey Biennial exhibition brings together 122 contemporary artists living and working across seven counties. The show includes the work of 13 artists from San Luis Obispo County.

The opening celebration of the biennial is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 17 at the museum, with beverages and light bites in the museum’s sculpture garden and live performances in the galleries.

“Joy” (2024) by Wendy R. Walter

Admission to the opening celebration is free and open to all.

You can explore the work of each Biennial artist through the Monterey Biennial Virtual Gallery, which allows you to browse the work and learn more about the artists behind them (including the San Luis Obispo artists represented in the exhibition).

The Monterey Biennial is on view at the Monterey Museum of Art May 15 to August 31.
