Five strangers in a small-town acting class find themselves becoming characters in their own lives in the quirky dramedy Circle Mirror Transformation on stage at By the Sea Productions for one weekend only April 4-6.
The staged reading of the play by Annie Baker, directed by Chrys Barnes, unexpectedly reveals secrets and longings of each participant as the theatre games they play turn into a real-life psychodrama. The cast includes Larry Barnes, L. Kelty, Topher Lyons, Perri Gandy, and Wren.
The play is “absorbing, unblinking and sharply funny,” according to a New York Times review. “The artificiality of the acting games just emphasizes the naturalness of the characters’ real lives and feelings.”
Circle Mirror Transformation is onstage at 545 Shasta Ave. in Morro Bay Friday and Saturday evening April 4-5 and Sunday afternoon April 6.
