Brandee Younger is redefining the harp’s role in modern music. You can see for yourself when Cal Poly Arts presents the Brandee Younger Trio at Cal Poly’s Spanos Theatre on Tuesday, April 1 at 7:30 p.m.

Over the past 15 years, Younger has pushed boundaries for harpists, making history in 2022 as the first Black woman nominated for a Grammy Award for best instrumental composition, and in 2024 winning the NAACP Image Award for outstanding jazz album.

Inspired by pioneers Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane, Younger honors their legacy while expanding the harp’s reach in jazz and popular music. In addition to performing and recording, Younger is on the faculty at New York University, Steinhardt School, and The New School College of Performing Arts.
