Four San Luis Obispo County nonprofit organizations are receiving a total of $116,197 from the California Arts Council in its quest to advance arts, culture, and creativity in every county in the state.

The SLO County Arts Council, as the county-designated arts agency, will receive the majority of the funding, $62,959, as part of the CAC’s state-local partnership program.

R.A.C.E. Matters is slated to receive $20,832 to fund its “Untold Coastal Stories” project to amplify Black, Indigenous, and People of Color on the Central Coast.

The SLO Museum of Art and the California Community Education Center, Inc. will each receive $16,203. The museum will use the funds to provide free gallery tours, teachers’ guides, transportation for school children, and targeted summer programs for underserved children. The education center plans to implement the California Youth and Justice Arts Education Project to create social-emotional arts education programs for underrepresented youth throughout California.

The CAC is disbursing more than 800 grant awards for the 2024-25 fiscal year, totaling close to $19.5 million. It is California’s leading public arts grants provider with funding accessible to every county in the state.

“Art makes us who we are in California,” said CAC Executive Director Danielle Brazell. “We are defined by our creative workforce, and our everyday lives are informed, enriched, and uplifted by the artists and cultural workers across our state.”
