Local jazz and folk vocalist Inga Swearingen joins Canzona Women’s Ensemble in an afternoon program celebrating rich musical traditions from across the Americas on Sunday, November 3 at SLO United Methodist Church.

Songs of the Americas, conducted by Canzona Artistic Director Cricket Handler, also features the Paso Robles High School Forte Choir directed by Canzona singer Gaylene Ewing bringing to life stories of freedom and cultural heritage.

Inspired by straight-ahead jazz, subdued bossa novas, Swedish folk songs, and pop standards, Swearingen blends her influences into a juxtaposition of styles and emotions.

The concert repertoire reflects the musical heritage of both North and South America, combining classical, folk, and contemporary influences in a performance that celebrates the depth and diversity of these cultures. The program includes “Canto ‘E Liberta,” a powerful work that explores themes of freedom and resilience, and “La Llorona,” a hauntingly beautiful Mexican folk song that tells the story of love and loss.

Now in its 16th season, Canzona Women’s Ensemble is SLO County’s all-women choral ensemble that collaborates with poets, composers, dancers, and musicians of all ages from throughout the Central Coast.
