The City of Guadalupe is requesting proposals for a nonprofit performing arts organization to operate its Royal Theatre after all construction work is complete in 2027.

Plans call for the theatre to become a high-quality, mixed-use entertainment, educational and community arts facility that is consistently in use. The city received a $4.9 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration for the work.

The facility, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been used as a movie theatre, performing arts space and for public meetings since 1939, has been red tagged since an electrical fire in 2011.

The project, which includes the restoration of the 230-seat historical theatre, a new performing arts center, and an outdoor area, is planned to be ready for operation by March of 2027. The city wants to hire an operator prior to the start of construction, which is planned to begin in early 2025.

Deadline for submissions is September 20.
