Deadline for proposals: June 15, 2024.

The City of Arroyo Grande and Arroyo Grande Public Art are accepting proposals from local artists for the latest round of Arroyo Grande’s “Art Outside the Box” public art program.

Each selected artist or team of artists will receive a stipend of up to $1,000 to paint each of four different utility boxes within the City of Arroyo Grande. The artist or team also receives up to $250 at the start of the project to cover the cost of paints and materials.

The utility boxes to be painted during this cycle are at 1053 East Grand Avenue (by Best Care Pharmacy), El Camino Real & North Halcyon Road (in front of the cemetery), Fair Oaks & Traffic Way (in front of Chevrolet), and Elm & East Grand.

Proposals are due on June 15 at 5 p.m. The project is open to San Luis Obispo County artists 18 years of age and older, and applications from both new and established artists are encouraged. Submissions are subject to review in accordance with adopted Public Art Guidelines and Arroyo Grande Public Art’s mission and goals.

The goal of “Art Outside the Box” is to enhance and beautify the streetscape and display the artwork of local artists on what otherwise would be drab, unattractive utility boxes, by using non-traditional ways to add and share artistic creativity within the community.
