Morro Bay Art Association will present a lecture at the Art Center Morro Bay from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, May 8, by the author of Disrupted Realism (Schiffer, 2019), the first book to survey the works of contemporary painters who are challenging and reshaping the tradition of Realism.

John Seed, a widely published author and blogger who is professor emeritus of art and art history at Mt. San Jacinto College, believes that we are “the most distracted society in the history of the world.” In the 200 pages of his book, he has collected the works of 38 artists he sees as visionaries and whose paintings respond to the subjectivity and disruptions of modern experience.

Seed has written about art and artists for Arts of Asia, Art Ltd., Catamaran, Harvard Magazine, International Artist, The Huffington Post, and Poets and Artists. He was a featured expert in the Google Arts and Culture video series “Name That Art.” He plans to publish a sequel, More Disruption: Representation in Flux, in mid-2023.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
