An 80×40 foot mural by transdisciplinary artist Maria Molteni commemorating San Luis Obispo County’s Seven Sisters is displayed on the back of the Fremont Theater and the accompanying Laird Building wall in downtown San Luis Obispo. “Seven Sisters (Celestial Subduction)” is visible from Higuera Street between Santa Rosa and Osos streets.
According to the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art, which in 2021 entered into a partnership with the City to coordinate public art projects such as this, Molteni engages in extensive research to gather imagery from academic, folkloric, and mystical/spiritual sources for work such as this.
